For the price it is currently going for, this recorder is a steal. I remember when portable, so-called field reporters, first came out, several years ago. They did not have the quality, the size, the way, the features, well or anything else, then the recorders on the market now have. In fact, they were not much more than just toys, or tools used by businessmen in pudgy suits. But that was then, this is now. The new age of recording has calmed, and test can has delivered
Battery life used to be an issue, but the Tascam, well, seems to last forever. We were particularly impressed with the ability to charge batteries and keep on going. I, actually have a brand-new unopened set in my audio case. But it has remained that way for so long, I don’t even think I will end up using it.
We thought we might have a bit of an issue in recording enough audio, as we are sometimes at multiple rock concerts which tend to go on all day and may feature a dozen bands, some of which you may even know, most of which we don’t.
We particularly liked the interface of the Tascam, and the ability for it to edit data on the fly. Now although as a rule, I almost never get it in the field. Editing in the field is quite tedious even if you have your entire office in the field, honestly. However one of the best parts about the interface, is the ability to start and stop a stanza of recording data, when you have those events that are notoriously annoying to audio technicians, such as the band coming off and on, or the usual disruptions in the crowd.
Here is a list of only a few Tascam features:
So for the price, and for those safety and security of owning a brand name like Tascam, it is hard to go wrong here folks. It’s a winner.
